the dust
of our dna
and the ashes of
the beginning of
the season called
lent are still settling.
the chairs in the sanctuary
are now back
in their typical
arrangement
and the candles
have all been changed
the settling dust
now makes way
for
valentine
love
love
the joyful
celebratory kind
will soon fill the
sanctuary
and i
imagine
those who gather will
not notice the
settling dust of
ash wednesday....
for they have come
to honor
the love of
two
who have been
faithful
and
and
committed in their
promise to
each other
for twelve years
already
they've already lived
their commitment
longer than many
who have long had
the right to be married
we will only
accomplish a
civil union today
but to these two
it could hardly matter
they've gathered in a
welcoming and sacred place
surrounded by people who love them
without condition
and they speak
the truth of their
relationship
the dust settles all around
in so many ways
but in the midst of
celebration
and promise
one hardly notices all that dust
