momma's boy: part 2

yep that's what i was called:
momma's boy.

though most internet
definitions define
a momma's boy
as an
immature adult man
overly dependent
on his mother...

this term was
tossed my way as a child.

it came with other
adjectives:
wimp,
sissy,
wuss...
scardy cat,
chicken,
loser.

i've been thinking about
my childhood lately...
which offers the occasion
to reflect on all of life.

more than thinking...
i've been digging
and allowing
memories and emotions
and old ways of thinking
to bubble to the surface.

sure...
i freely admit
there have been many
things in life that have caused
fear.

sure...
i freely admit
there have been many
reasons i've hid
and depended on others
to get me through.

but...
and...
along the way
i've spent a great deal of time
observing and taking in
all the scenes and words
and stories.

what may have looked
like to others as weakness
has really been....

as I have been reflecting...

astute awareness
on my part.

all my
observing
and listening
and processing
are now the result of
understanding
and strength.

I was called Dumb Dumb ... It taught me the drive to succeed and to excel - we are not defined by the terms and names, merely challenged by them!!
