high communion and finger painting...

Sunday was World Wide Communion Sunday. The communion table was set....not in the usual way. The starched, all white, table cloth with gold fringe stayed in the closet, and the stacks of juice trays were not stacked in their balanced precise way.

Because we are Presbyterian, people noticed. "What is that cloth on the table?"

The children had made it. As they studied creation and confession, forgiveness and new beginnings their little hands created a finger paint masterpiece. If you looked closely between their swirls and blobs you could see carefully painted flowers, frogs, smiley faces, and birds. They were telling the story of how God created intricate things from nothingness. Let the children come, let them come in and LET THEM TELL GOD'S STORY!

That's what we did.

Sure the table did not have that sterile, formal look.....on Sunday the table in our sanctuary had a story to tell, the story God has told throughout the ages....told through the artwork of our children.

Love this idea. Wish we could do it at our church, but we only have a handful of kids and it's "not the way we do it."
