what I didn't mention yesterday...

Cyndie and her brothers came to church yesterday. Cyndie is the young girl who drew the multi-colored God with bangs. I didn't mention that these children are currently homeless. We've been working with their mother and have given them a lot of help during the past months.

Seems their mother is not interested in making decisions that would help her family. We have an excellent shelter designed to help this family. Currently her pride will not budge. She is holding out in a hotel room. One room with five children and an on and off husband.

Yesterday Cyndie's brothers were in the sanctuary with her. One of her brothers got up to go to the restroom. As I expected he went on a tour of the building. On his way back to the sanctuary one of our ushers met him. Instead of reading him the riot act this usher did what the church is designed to do. He took the boy under his wings and had him help usher.

I wonder. How many homeless boys ushered in church yesterday? How many homeless girls stood on the chancel with the picture she created during worship?

I wish I could fix the problems of this family. I can't. What I and others have done is embrace them. These children know with out a shadow of a doubt that they are loved, known and included in our life.

The bottom line. Church doesn't get any better than this.

and as one who has NOW shifted to a new ministry working with/for and on behalf of people like this wonderful family ... affirm that at the end of the day the radical unconditional inclusion of the Gospel is what it is ALL about !!!
