Last night I was home alone...well just me and the dogs. We watched two movies back to back. The second movie was the Chris McCandless story: Into the Wild. Wow! Now this is a good movie. Atleast it's my kind of movie.
Chris's real life journey is beautifully told. Though some of the details will never be known....the ones we do know tell a story ripe with theological depth. Chris was only trying to tap into the meaning of life. We can only assume he accomplished what he set out to do. The photo above is Chris. He took the photo of himself. It was found by hunters who also found his body.
I'll be watching this movie again. The whole idea of faith being an actual journey and not a stagnate self contained ritual is what Chris's "into the wild" journey is all about. What did he discover before dying? Love is only real when it is shared.

It was tragic that McCandless died out there in the wilderness; but then again, so many people have benefited from his story... a couple of years of hitchhiking led to his story challenging thousands (millions?) of people to reexamine their lives
