Obama and his FORMER Reverend...

I am surprised and at the same time a bit pleased that people care about the sermons Obama's former preacher preached. As many times as I have heard people joke about sleeping through my sermons I am impressed that this preacher preached something that made people take notice.

A short story:

I was once called to jury duty when living in Arkansas. The judge introduced the case and then the lawyers. How surprised I was to discover both the prosecution and defense were being served by lawyers who were members of the church I served. The judge asked if there were any present in the courtroom that knew either lawyer. I raised my hand and answered the judges question. He asked which lawyer I knew. I told him both. He asked if there was any reason why I could not serve on the jury. I told him:

"I believe I can serve on this jury. Though I am the pastor of both lawyers I assured the court that neither of them listened to everything I said. I felt sure I could do the same."

Guess what the judge did?

He allowed me to remain in the jury pool!

However, the next question caused my departure. The case ended up involving another one of my church members! The third church member was the victim.

My point: Not all the members of the church I serve agree with everything I say, preach, or believe.

So.....get over Obama's former preacher!
