what not to carry

photo by blake spencer - taken in nashville tn

remember
he said
you can't be responsible
for the other person's
emotions
or their response

when you
yourself
have been honest
truthful
courageous enough
to admit reality

you can't be responsible
for the other person's
emotions
or their response

when you have
done the work
of digging down into
the depth of your own soul
and have grappled
with weakness
and fear
and you speak and live
what is
honestly
genuinely you

then

you can't be responsible
for the other
person's emotions
or their response

when you have
been vulnerable
and honest
and forthcoming
and diligently worked
to be who GOD
created you to be

then

you can't be responsible
for the other
person's
emotions
or thier response
when
they do not like
what they see
or hear
or feel
or think

taking on
the other person's
emotion and response
does not mean you
are not caring
that you do not love
it means
that you have learned
how to give
yourself
and the other person
respect
and space to live into
respect

sometimes
we attempt
to carry
things that are not ours
to carry

Truer words were never spoken. I have read and will re-read until it sinks in. Thank you for speaking these truths my friend.
