a day trip to brooklyn
with a friend
and her friends.

we met in time square.

down in the subway
a homeless man
yelled at us
at the top of his lungs:

one
seven
seven
six
he screamed.

(is it biblical?
one asked.
no,
it seems
historical.)

and then he
added other
hideous insults
personal
assaults,
mean.

we scurried through
the turnstile
to the other side
where we all felt a bit safer...
but unsure until the
train whisked us off
out of his sight
to other realities...
life giving ones.

we spent the day walking
looking
listening
and eating.

i've found it important
to explore new places,
to get away from
the normal pace of the week...

it gives
new perspective...
and certainly has a way
of balancing
all the things that have
a tendency to cause
anxiety and worry.

this is my latest
day trip on my day off...

time well spent.
