a call...

Spent the whole week pondering God's call.
Jeremiah the prophet was called...
and one like me was called.

Then...
this morning
started out with a call.
My phone made that familiar tone
that tells me someone left me a message.

I had forgotten to take my
phone out of my coat pocket
and had not heard the
initial ring.

One message is waiting
I was informed.

And what a message it was.
A hilarious
voice
leaving a scripted yet poignant
message for
the person
who used to own my phone number.

For the past two years I've gotten
his messages....
the one who used to have my number.

Along the journey
I have had the opportunity to talk
with his co-workers and friends.
Most often they say,
"You sound just like him.
Are you sure you aren't joking
around with me."

"No," I say.
I am not him. I am me."

It seems he...
the one who used to own my number
loves to make people laugh.

And he has
certainly made me
laugh.
