God's truth or his truth?

I just listened to Dr. Rev. Jeffress on t.v. He's the newish Baptist preacher in downtown Dallas. The church hired him in hopes that their congregation would grow. First Baptist has a history of being in the limelight.

Another local mega-Baptist church has been stealing their thunder for quite some time. In order to pay for their multi-million dollar mega downtown building they needed new life. (How do I know this...the story was in the local newspaper.) Dr. Rev. Jeffress it seems has produced the attention they were desiring. Billboards throughout the city and in the newspaper depict his now very familiar pose....a smiling face and folded arms.

Those folded arms have spoken volumes in my book. Do a quick study on body language and you will know plenty about the message that is being preached downtown.

This morning he preached on one of my favorite Reformed topics, the Sovereignty of God. He thumbed through the Bible and lifted up a slew of passages which highlighted God's Sovereignty. We agree....on the most part, sort of. I affirm God's Sovereignty....but I don't try to define God's Sovereignty. Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of Sovereignty?

Oh, sure we can ponder, wonder, think, ask questions, and discuss God's Sovereignty....but the minute we attempt to specifically define God's Sovereignty we start projecting or own ideas and truth.

I came to terms with God's Sovereignty a long time ago. Truth can be found in my life and in yours. Truth can be found in our life and theirs. Truth can be found in the lives of our friends and our enemies. Truth can be found in sin and faith. Truth can be found in the life of a harlot and in the life of a big steeple preacher. Why? Because God is sovereign.

So this morning, the sign out front of the Baptist church downtown reads:

Why it's not o.k. to be gay.

There are protesters standing in front of the church today....they aren't spewing hate, they are simply standing in silence holding signs that say "Jesus loves me".

They are reminding the little preacher in the big pulpit that God's love is Sovereign.
