other town names in Texas just for fun!

Other interesting town names in Texas:

Cut and Shoot, Texas

This Texas town was named after a community confrontation that almost led to violence in 1912. There are numerous versions of the story on whether it was a dispute over land claims, design of a new steeple for the town church or who should be allowed to preach at the church. A boy at the scene of the dispute reportedly declared…

… "I'm going to cut around the corner and shoot through the bushes in a minute!"

This apparently remained in residents' minds and was eventually adopted as the town's name.

Dime Box, Texas

There's an Old and a New Dime Box. The name comes from the practice of leaving a dime in a box at Brown's Mill to get a letter delivered to Giddings. This was before a Federal Post Office opened in 1877.

Ding Dong, Texas

Legend has it that Ding Dong’s weird name has something to do with the fact that it is located in Bell County. The town’s motto is “If you find yourself in Ding Dong, you had to have been looking for it.”

Nameless, Texas

Local legend suggests that this town was named after the Post Office had rejected numerous suggestions for the town’s name. The frustrated residents of the town wrote back to the post office, saying, "Then let the post office be nameless, and be damned!"

Needmore, Texas

This town was founded in the 1920’s and they desperately needed more settlers. So the existing settlers named the town “Needmore.” Unfortunately, their little public relations stunt did not bring the desired results. The population never broke the 100 mark.

And of course there are these towns in Texas: Faker, Climax, Zipperlandville, Noodle, Looneyville, Hoop and Holler, Uncertain, Oatmeal, Frognot, Bug Tussle, Chat, Flat, and Earth.
