One of the three eight year old triplets that became part of my week yelled from a slow moving Suburban. I was locking the front doors to the church after a funeral. I turned when I heard his greeting: "Hey Master Blake!" He forgot I told him to call me Pastor Blake! What a great mistake. I've laughed all week.
I was told I needed to learn how to better protect myself, not to be so open. But at the same time I was reminded that I was called to this church because I was so open. I've found it impossible to remain as open as I naturally am in the current church I serve. So I must learn to balance my openness and self protection. I've made some strides in this area in the last several months.
