grace over the miles

There are occasions for us all
when we feel exiled
and without credibility.

Suppose it takes a certain amount
of courage to admit exile...
and even stronger
faith to live through such.

The state of exile
does not have

to be literal...
sometimes it is emotional.

But here is a secret...
a secret you most likely
won't trust if you've never
come to terms
with exile status.

Exiles
eventually

and typically
understand
life in a deeper way....
see what once could not be seen
hear what once could not be heard.

In exile
there is little to no
emphasis on what others define as success..
less angst at holding up all the
things others say you should hold up.

Striving to survive is the only
priority in exile.

And the simple gifts in exile are profound:
a smile
a laugh
a hug
a story
a song sung by a child
a text from a young person seeking wisdom
a friend who faithfully calls everyday...
simple gifts
breathing new life.

Seems we spend most of our time
avoiding exile...
but the truth be known
exile is a gift of sorts...
given that we might
finally find our way.
