Jerk, Jerky, Jerkier, Jerkiest!

My father once owned a 1958 International Harvester Truck. Unlike the truck pictured above the truck I learned how to drive was green with just a bit of rust.

I'll never forget my first drive into town. I'll never forget that first stop light. Really it was the green light that caused me fear and trepidation. When the green light appeared my "jerky" effort to let the clutch out killed the engine causing impatient motorists behind me to honk. I panicked.

Eventually the old truck started and before the light turned red I made my way through the intersection. My father was snapping at me the whole time, telling me what to do. He made matters that much worse. It took several trips into town to not be so "jerky" with the clutch.

At times life can be like that expereince of learning how to drive an old stick shift truck. Some life transitions are simply not easy or smooth and the only way to live through these moments is to keep on living. At first things will be "jerky". However, after one makes thier way through the intersection more than once....life gets easier, smoother.

It seems I need to remember that first trip in the old International Harvester Truck. Though the clutch is jerky right now...........it will not always be this way.

Yep. I know what you mean about the "Green light" - my panicky times on hills and underpasses learning to drive my 66 VW Beetle was the same thing. BUT, i was just recounting some of those moments a few days ago reminiscing with my brother about that first feeling of FREEDOM on that 'maiden voyage' into the big city of Grand Island 13 miles away from our little town. Great post. Great picture. God bless.

Oh what a feeling that was, the first drive without anyone in the car with me! It was the BEST! :)
