Easter 2010 Memories: Part One

pictures from the congregation who taught
me how to celebrate Easter with cascarones and joy!

Cascarones.

Eggs

emptied,
dried and

filled with confetti
all for the purpose of
breaking them open
to experience joy,
happiness, laughter...
resurrection.

The very response
we are invited to take in
and embrace on this
day called Easter.

My son called first thing
this morning.
"Happy Easter Dad."
We visited a bit and I
told him
for the first
time in 13 years
cascarones would not
be part of my Easter morning.

"How could you break the tradition?"
Spoken by one who gets it....
who appreciates the simple but deep joy
the crack and exchange a confetti filled egg offers.

Oh, I know
there are some
in my past who are thrilled

I was not present in their life this day...
that cascarones were not cracked.

For them...
they cannot sense the joy,

all they saw was mess.

I'll never forget her lengthy
heated email
bemoaning the travesty
of Easter confetti
following her grandson into her home.
"I had to vacuum because of your mess!"

No
cascarones
were not part of my
Easter celebration
this year.

But...
but...
all those past
cascarone filled Easter mornings
dance in my head...
visions of
joy and
laughter.

Easter at it's best.

Hey friend, hope you had a happy Easter. 2 dozen cascarones at my house this year! I'm sure one had your name on it. If not it should have!!!!
