Read these words today by Robert Atkinson in his book The Gift of Stories:
"When we write autobiographically - when we explore our own inner realms, dig deep into ourselves, and bring out what lies buried in our hearts - we write about the experiences and feelings that are most important to us. Writing....this way involves us in a process of "soul-making", because we evoke the emotions and experiences - of crisis and opportunity, of love and dying, of values and truth - that give life a deeper meaning."
I suppose this is why I blog most days.
Atkinson goes on to say: "We make our stories sacred by identifying the events and experiences in our lives that have made us into someone different than who we were.....Making our stories sacred involves an interior odyssey where we learn to embrace our own inner demons. It is a process leading to rebirth where the 'spirit' is no longer neglected."
It is my hope and prayer that as I continue to write and live, remember, reflect and speak.....that I will have the courage and strength to share as much as my story as possible.
Sharing this way comes with risks.....that's why most of us don't do it.
A favorite blogger of mine is Naked Pastor. He proves again and again the courage to face his demons and to make sacred his story. Well done good and faithful servant.
