and a child said...

We reinacted that moment when Jesus was forced to carry his own cross through the streets of the city. We had three wooden crosses, two small ones and one larger one. Each child had an opportunity to carry the cross through the crowd.

Now, I know....I have worked with children for many years and the description of our reenactment sounds over the top, but it was not. We spent a great deal of time prepping the children, and when we did the actual reenactment not one of the children were afraid or confused. They simply wanted a turn to carry the cross. After we carried the cross and acted as the crowd....we sat for a good deal of time re-telling the Easter story.

Later that evening while on the playground, one young boy came up to me. He asked, "Do you know that angry mob?" I said, "Yes. The one we talked about tonight?" He responded, "Yea, I think that was a mob of angry moms!"

Now I am thinking, to a child the worst case scenario would be not one angry mom....but many angry moms! He thought through what it must have felt like for Jesus which will make Easter much more joyful.
