Robert's Rules of Order will be the death of me...

I had to attend a Presbytery meeting today. "Had" is the operative word. I swear.......Robert's Rules of Order will not only be the death of me......they will be the death of the church for sure.

To start our meeting off well one of the microphones picked up the sounds of a local Latino station. In the midst of hearing about the agenda for the day and enduring the one or two who were mad that the agenda had changed the Latino beat played. Total confusion!

One motion came to the floor from the Committee on Ministry. It had to do with securing credit checks for ministers moving into new positions. The wording of the motion left a lot of questions and produced three amendments to the original motion. Each new amendment was discussed and eventually voted on.

First we had to vote on whether or not we wanted to stop discussion or vote. Then we had to vote to add two additional words to the original motion. Then we had to vote on the addition of seven words. THEN WE WERE ABLE TO VOTE ON THE ORIGINAL MOTION.

OH MY GOD!

Robert's Rule of Order will surely be the death of me and the church too!
