he heard God speak...

For the third Sunday in a row they showed up. A mother and her children who remain homeless. For the last four months they have been living in a motel room.....one mother, five children....sometimes her husband.

This Pentecost morning every choir in the church presented music. Even though our dear little homeless ones had not practiced the choir director invited them to join in. They sang a jazzy version of "This Little Light of Mine."

Oh my GOD! I wish you all could have seen their faces. The fact that they had been included and were able to give back to the church which has become their home was obviously a source of deep joy.

After they sang I ended up sitting next to one of the boys. His mother and sister sat across the aisle. His other brother found someone else to sit with. Andy sat with me. He was quiet at first. He scooted as close as he could get to me and leaned his head on my side.

Then he noticed the wooden cross an eighty year old woman in the church carved for me. He touched it and intently looked at it. Eventually he put the cross up to his ear as if it were a sea shell.

He quietly said, "I hear God talking to Jesus!"
He then said, "God is telling me something. He said that you and your wife are doing a good job at the church."

I've wanted to know this and hear this. I don't always feel I am accomplishing much at this church. Yet, God spoke to me through this precious little one who does not have a home.

He heard and I am listening.
