cleaning out our closet at church

I slowly move out of denial. We must pack and move every item of our 1950's wing so that it can be demolished to make way for a new building. I went into the supply closet today and discovered a box of reel to reel tapes. One marked 1951 the other 1971.

The secretary yelled from the other room that we had a reel to reel tape player in the office of the Dir. of Music. So off we went to listen to our find.

After a few tries we heard the scratchy remains of the 1951 tape. It was a wedding. The actual date was December 19, 1951. We could only make out organ music sounding like a pump organ from a circus. Half way trhough the tape broke and we couldn't get it to work again.

The 1971 tape was of the General Assembly meeting of the United Presbyterian Church of the United States of America held in Chicago. It had the sound of an old time radio with an announcer.

Ahhh, the good old days.

We could only find church records as far back as 1955. We remain in the dark as to whose wedding we have on tape.
Perhaps you know.
