a journey with others
just read that familiar story in the bible...
the one where passionate
and loyal friends
carry their friend through a crowd
up on top of a roof
beat open the roof
and drop their
friend down into the house.
the story depicts
jesus
standing down in the house
inviting
encouraging
receiving
giving.
the story becomes a celebration
of the faith
the friends have
as well as the
celebration of
a new beginning
especially for the one
who had been lowered down
through the hole in the roof.
i've been pondering this story
a lot
lately.
i've realized how my friends
have done the same for me...
in their own way they
have carried me
trudged me through crowds
broken a hole in the roof
and dropped me
in
to
healing and new beginnings.
i've learned that
sometimes
i am the one carrying
and beating the hole in the roof for new life
and sometimes
i am the one being
carried and
dropped into new life.
i love the words i recently heard
for they express this story well...
sometimes all i can do is mumble
while others confidently affirm...
and i suppose
this is how we carry each other.
we concentrate so much on
our individual
abilities
choices
faith...
and all along
jesus
is down in the house
inviting
receiving
encouraging
creating
and calling us
to live faith together.
sometimes we mumble
sometimes we confidently speak.
sometimes we carry
sometimes we are carried.
all i know
is the
spirit we call
holy
has beat a hole in the roof
and the light
is shining in!
