The LA Cathedral is truly a spectacular building. It is hard to photograph though. Huge, concrete cavern with all kinds of natural light and dark shadows intermingling. In one sense the cave like feeling is overwhelming reminding us that we can never capture all of God....that there will always be a part of God we cannot fully see or know.
Then once you sit down and begin to notice the intricate details of artwork, tapestries, wood carving, metal work, tile, organ pipes...that is when you begin to experience the closeness, familiarity of God...the God we can see and feel.
I showed up at the Cathedral just in time for worship which was followed by an organ concert. I soaked in the beauty. Though these pictures do not capture just how beautiful this building is....they remind me of that special moment in the middle of an enormous city. God was there and God is here.
